Emergency Appeal for Volunteers from Good Neighbour’s Scheme

The Good Neighbour’s Scheme Needs You

We are a charity that has been offering support to the elderly in the Mill Hill and Burnt Oak area for over 40 years. All our regular events and services in their current form have been cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

We will be supporting our clients in ways that come within Government guidelines and this means that we will need many more volunteers over the forthcoming weeks and months.

If anyone can spare a few hours and are prepared to be/or are DBS checked we would be very grateful of your help and support.

Trinity Church Christmas Services

Trinity Church Christmas Services

Once again we have experienced memorable occasions over the Christmas season.

Our young people and Junior Church leaders led our Gift Service on 15 December, when, as usual, we brought gifts for the mothers and children at a local refuge. We were reminded about journeys that we undertake and how the journeys that Mary and Joseph had to take with baby Jesus were hard, arduous and uncomfortable.

We decided this year to have our annual Candlelight Carol Service at 4pm rather than in the evening. As anticipated this proved to be a better time and we welcomed a large congregation. We enjoyed Christmas songs and anthems by the choir and we all celebrated the Christmas story in readings and carols.

The festive atmosphere was maintained as we all tucked into a Christmas tea in our beautifully decorated Church.

Elder’s Districts

Elder’s Districts

Elders’ Districts “Get togethers”

We have started periodic get togethers in our Elders’ Districts. The first was a tea party, held in the summer, and the second a coffee morning in mid October at another member’s home, for members and friends in a different couple of Districts. These are social occasions and we have welcomed people who have not been able to attend our Sunday Services for some time.

Elders’ Awayday, Saturday 19 October at Wesley Hall, Barnet.

This Awayday gave us some time to reflect on issues that our regular monthly Elders’ Meetings do not allow us to cover as adequately as we want. We recognised that between us we offer much time and many different skills, but we discussed and shall continue to explore different ways of organising and sharing our responsibilities both on Sundays and in our pastoral care. Modern life-styles and pressures mean that regular attendance at Sunday Services is not possible for many and that will be an ongoing challenge for us. We want to improve our communication in its many forms as we seek to develop our vision for the future.

Summer 2020 Update

As with so many other events, Open House had to stop in March because of the lockdown. We continue to think of our members and have periodic contact with them by phone and mail . We hope  that it will be possible to arrange some Open House meetings again in the autumn. As soon as plans can be put in place, we shall make sure that information is made available.

Summer Picnic

Summer Picnic

Each summer, members and friends of Trinity Church enjoy a picnic. This year it took place in Mill Hill Park on Sunday 1st September after the morning Service.

Mid Week Communion

Mid Week Communion

On the first Tuesday of each month at 10am at Trinity Church, and on the third Tuesday of each month at 11am at the Eversfield Centre we celebrate Holy Communion. The service is shorter and more intimate than Sunday Worship and may include a reflection, short discussion or meditation. Join us to discover a different style and way of worshipping.

Activities over Summer at Trinity Church

Holiday at Home has proved to be popular and is eagerly anticipated by many, with some of our guests coming back year after year. For those who would otherwise not have a “holiday” it is an enjoyable break from the normal routine.

This is an annual event in August which takes place at The Eversfield Centre. It is especially for older people who cannot get out much. There is a varied programme which includes talks on a wide variety of topics, music to listen to and sing along to, quizzes and games. The week provides an opportunity for people to socialise and enjoy conversation in a convivial atmosphere. Refreshments are served during the day, including home cooked lunches and afternoon tea with cakes. Transport in family cars can be arranged.

Summer 2019
Holiday at Home took place this year from 19 – 23 August at The Eversfield Centre, our 10th anniversary year. It was an enjoyable and successful week. Over the course of the week there was a total of some 200 attendances by participants, carers and helpers, with numbers each day between 36 and 41. In a warm and friendly atmosphere we enjoyed listening to some good speakers and entertainers, eating delicious home cooked lunches and tucking into afternoon tea. Time for socialising is an important part of Holiday at Home and each day there was a buzz of conversation and sharing of stories.

Our group of drivers, kitchen teams and helpers enabled the week to go smoothly and we also appreciated the support in so many ways of members and friends of Trinity Church, of other Mill Hill Churches and of Churches Together in Mill Hill.

Our thanks to all who made this another memorable Holiday at Home.

Holiday at Home 2020

After much discussion we decided that because of the Covid-19 pandemic it is not possible this August to hold our usual Holiday at Home week. We know this will be a disappointment to many. But we hope there will be other possibilities in the future.
